Education Secretary Accused of Donation Theft

Constantine Zavala, Chief of Police in the western Honduras department of Lempira, reported that the police have arrested Marilú Tejada, a secretary for the Department of Education in Gracias, Lempira.

According to research conducted by agents of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (DNIC), the official looted five tablets, which were part of 232 tablets that the Taiwanese government donated to Honduras give to students with academic excellence in the department of Lempira.Theft of Taiwan Donated Tablets

The education authority, accounting for the delivery, counted the items, but found that five were missing. Norma Gladys Alvarado, Director of the Department of Education, filed a complaint with the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (DNIC).

The agents began an investigation in search of the perpetrators of the robbery. The first suspect in the case was the guard on duty at the institution, but according to witnesses, Tejada had left the building after the arrival of the boxes, but returned 30 minutes later and took one box containing five tablets. She asked the guard for help putting the box in her car, and told him not to tell anyone about the box or that she had returned.

Upon inquiries, the officer said, everything pointed to Tejada, who at the time of her arrest claimed innocence.

Marilú Tejada was presented on charges of abuse of power, violation of the duties of civil servants, and theft.
