Extreme Weather Expected in Honduras

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) pointed out that a storm in the Atlantic could become a hurricane off the coast of Belize on Saturday.

The NHC noted that “Harvey” could become a hurricane affecting Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, where rain and strong winds are expected.

Harvey is the eighth Atlantic basin storm of the season, and continues to intensify. It threatens to transform into a hurricane today before moving on to Belize.

Since the beginning of the hurricane season in the Atlantic basin, which began June 1st and ends November 30th, eight tropical storms have formed: “Arlene”, “Bret”, “Cindy”, “Don”, “Emily”, “Franklin”, “Gert” and “Harvey”.

The National Administration for oceans and atmosphere (NOAA) upgraded its forecast at the beginning of this month, predicting more storms: between 14 and 19, of which 7 to 10 may become hurricanes. Of those, between 3 and 5 may be hurricanes of great intensity, with winds above the 178 kilometers per hour.
