Mr. Manzanares was driving with his daughter and granddaughter when men on foot shot at them them in the downtown business district. Municipal police officers reported that Manzanares and his family were taken to a private hospital, where his little granddaughter died. The former presidential bodyguard and his daughter received wounds but “are out of danger”, according to National Police spokesman Leonel Sauceda. He added that eyewitnesses saw the two or three men who ambushed Manzanares’ car.
Manzanares was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard under President Carlos Flores, who served as president of Honduras from 1998 to 2002.
