Guillermo Bueso Passed Away Today

The former president of the Central Bank of Honduras, and current Chairman of the Board of Banco Atlantida, also known as a strategic economist, Guillermo Bueso, died today at his home in the Honduran capital.

Bueso had a degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Honduras, with an MA from Harvard University, in Cambridge, MS, of the United States.

At the time of his death, he was President of Inversiones (Investment) Atlantida, the holding company for Insurance Group of Atlantida, Bank President and Chairman of Insurance Atlantida, as well as President of Atlantic Bank of Belize, and Atlantic Insurance in Belize.

He was an adviser to the Honduras Medical Center Hospital and Medical Center of La Lima, Director of Hotels of Honduras, Inc., an adviser to the housing companies that make up the National Investment Holding Company, Inc. (Sonis), which consists of Atlantis Property Company, Inc. (COBIASA) and Development and Northern Development (FODENOR).

Bueso was devoted to public service, having served as Coordinating Minister for the Economic Cabinet, President of the Central Bank of Honduras, Executive director of the International Monetary Fund, a member of the International Commission for Central American Recovery and Development (Commission Sanford).

He also chaired several foundations, including one that provides scholarships for low-income students and another that maintains an orphanage, he was President of the Foundation Profuturo, which manages the Museum Chiminike.

The wake will be held at the Peace Gardens of Suyapa, beginning at 4:00 pm today.

    Another good Honduran goes to the better life.

    I can only wish that our country can find a suitable replacement in these times of extreme need.
