Han Ji-soo Formally Not Guilty

The Honduras court has formally delivered a verdict of not guilty for the South Korean woman accused in the 2008 murder in Roatan, Honduras.

The verdict confirmed last month’s verbal court ruling that cleared the 27-year-old diving instructor, Han Ji-soo, of murder charges in connection with the death of a Dutch backpacker.

The killing happened at a house Han was sharing with others while staying in Honduras for diving training. Han has claimed she had nothing to do with the death.

In Wednesday’s formal verdict, the Honduran court said that it could not confirm Han’s involvement in the murder and prosecutors failed to present sufficient evidence, according to a foreign ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Prosecutors can appeal the ruling within 20 days, but there is little chance of it, the official said.

Han was arrested in August 2009 before being freed on bail in December and put under house arrest. She is expected to return to South Korea as early as late this month.
