A red alert is in effect, and the Honduras National Weather Service reported that areas where the rains will be more intense are the southeast, southwest and central parts of the country. This includes El Paraíso, Valle, Comayagua, La Paz, Choluteca, Francisco Morazán, Intibucá, Lempira, Ocotepeque, Copán and Santa Bárbara. There is also a possibility of more rain in some municipalities of Valle de Sula.

Forecaster Oscar Zelaya, said they expect 10 to 15 inches of rain in the east.

Alex Estevez, Copeco Regional Commissioner, said the Ulua river is at its peak, and could increase in the coming hours.

He said the red alert could extend through tomorrow if necessary.

“We encourage the mayors of all municipalities situated along the banks of the Ulua and Chamelecon River to evacuate the inhabitants immediately,” said the official.
