Honduran Boxer Scores Knockout

Premium Boxing Promotions is known in Panama to be a boxing company that specializes in putting up small cards just to showcase young, emerging talent. Last night was no different at the Fantastic Casino La Dona in Panama City, where a group of young hopefuls battled each other in a competitive night of fisticuffs. Two of five fights on the card ended by knockout and it was somewhat historic since it involved the only pro boxer fighting out from the tiny Central American nation of Honduras. Junior lightweight Miguel Gonzalez (3-0) scored a second knockout over local boy Jalfi Jimenez.

Consulting the boxing history books, Gonzalez is just the second pro boxer ever hailing from coffee-growing Honduras. The first was flyweight Julio Cesar Oyuela (7-12-1) who fought in the early part of this decade and did have the distinction of challenging for a regional title. Gonzalez displayed patriotic pride by proudly waving his white and blue national flag after the bout.

“I hope to keep winning and induce other young men in Honduras to go into boxing,” declared Gonzalez.
