Honduran President Addresses Prison Tragedy

President Lobo gave his condolences to the families of the victims of the Honduras prison fire in Comayagua, saying, “…my profound sentiments to the families who cry today. My spiritual faith I freely invoke, my heart is with you.”

President Porfirio Lobo Sosa confirmed the suspension of the administration of the National Prisons, after the tragedy that left hundreds dead on the penal farm in Comayagua last night.

The President said in a press conference that he spoke by telephone with the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, who promised to send a forensics team to help with the identification of the victims and the autopy reports.


The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, has asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to send an investigator to Honduras to examine what happened at the Honduras prison fire in Comayagua, and report their findings to both the Government of Honduras and the OAS.
