Honduran Troops to be Trained in Spain

A unit of Honduran troops will be trained in Spain for their peace-keeping mission in Lebanon, a military source was quoted as saying by local press.

“They will go to Spain, there they will receive training before they go to Lebanon. It is a group of 50 members and the selection process has already begun,” said Chief of Staff of the Honduran Armed Forces Romeo Vasquez Velasquez.

A military spokesman, Ramiro Archaga, told Xinhua that the deployment of the troops in Lebanon will be ratified by the National Congress.

The unit is made up of sappers, sanitarists and infantry soldiers.

“The troops will stay in Spain for two months with 51 militaries from El Salvador and then six months in Lebanon,” Archaga said.

Previously, the National Congress approved a one-year peace-keeping mission in Haiti, which was later canceled by the United Nations as it thought the peace-keeping troops in that country was enough.
