First Honduran woman appointed ambassador to the United Nations – Mary "Lizzy" Flores

The Daughter of Former Honduras President Carlos Roberto Flores Facusse (1998-2002), Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” Flores Flake, was unanimously elected to Vice President of the United Nations 67th General Assembly. Prior to being appointed as the Honduras Ambassador in April of 2010 to the United Nations in New York by Honduras President Porfirio (Pepe) Lobo Sosa; she was elected First Vice-President of the Honduran Congress between January 2006 until January 2008 and represented the department of Francisco Morazan.

In the legislative election of 2005 in Honduras, Mary “Lizzy” Flores received the highest number of votes in the country. In addition, she had the honor of becoming the first vice president of the Honduran National Congress. She graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a B.S. in journalism, and became a member of the prestigious American honor society for journalism Kappa Tau Alpha. She also has been employed as a columnist for the Honduran newspaper La Tribuna. Vice President Flores served as secretary general of the Department of Youth Development of the Liberal Party in 2000.
