Honduras First Lady Encourages Fight Against Breast Cancer

Throughout the month of October, First Lady, Rosa Elena Lobo, will be participating in scheduled activities in Honduras that raise awareness of breast cancer and its prevention.

Many countries support October as “Breast Cancer Awareness” month, and the first lady is encouraging Honduran women to join the movement and get checked for this disease.

Earlier this month, Rosa Elena Lobo led the “Walk for Life and The Fight Against Breast Cancer”, in Tegucigalpa, at which hundreds of students and bands from the capital’s schools attended. The walk was sponsored by the Cancer Center of Emma Romero Callejas, and the Honduran League Against Cancer.

“I never tire of repeating that this disease can be cured if it is prevented in time,” said the first lady of Honduras. Mrs. Lobo made a call for the female population to diligently perform their self-examinations, and undergo a mammogram yearly. “Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women,” she warned.

The Cancer Center at Emma Romero Callejas (Centro de Cáncer Emma Romero de Callejas) will be offering corresponding examinations at half price throughout the month of October.
