Honduras’s Air Force will fly drones (remotely piloted aircraft) fitted with cameras and landscape sensors. Some drones are controlled from a remote location, and others fly autonomously based on pre-programmed flight plans using more complex dynamic automation systems.
US Ambassador Hugo Llorens and President Profirio Lobo signed the “Merida Carcy” drug enforcement accord back in April, which allowed Honduras to receive four million dollars from the US government to fund military training, border patrol and air force special units. The program also included funding in the amount of two million dollars for the new naval base in the Department of Gracias a Dios.
Soto Cano is home to 600 US soldiers. The US military’s Joint Task Force Bravo (JTF-B) is headquartered at Soto Cano.
