Spain is heavily favored in today’s match up against Honduras, but Hondurans have not lost hope. We reflect upon a prior game that may have been one of Honduras’ greatest achievements in football – the 1982 World Cup match against Spain. Etched in our minds is the June 16, 1982 game where Honduras pulled off a 1-1 draw, upsetting all odds and predictions for the World Cup match.

They were glorious minutes in which Hondurans were glued to their televisions and dared not stray from their sets. After Spain’s recent loss to the Swiss, Hondurans are confident that anything can happen…
