Hondutel Receives Backing from USA

Radio America reports that a number of (unnamed) US companies are interested in investing up to $400 million in Honduras’s Empresa Hondurena de Telecomunicaciones (Hondutel).

Allegedly, various proposals are on the table concerning the management of mobile telephony, internet access services, fibre-optic cabling and power exchanges to help the state-backed company recover financially. International investors in Hondutel would be paid through “revenue sharing and through Hondutel services given to those companies.”

Any agreements, however, would require approval from President Lobo and from the Congress.
