IHSS to Impose Sanctions on Protesting Doctors

The Social Security Institute (IHSS – Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social) and the management of Human Resources will sanction about 60 medical personnel today who did not go to work as a show of support with the Medical College of Honduras.

Following a request from the Association of Doctors of the Honduran Institute of Social Security (AMIIHSS), several physicians did not attended their medical appointments today, which left dozens of Hondurans unattended to. This action forced the Labor Relations Office of the IHSS and inspectors from the Ministry of Labor to begin proceedings against them.

Honduran Patients Wait to Meet No Show Doctors

Honduran patients waited to meet with doctors that never showed.

Nancy Espinoza, in charge of the unit, explained that after reviewing a report from each office, they will subsequently call in the doctors and hold discharge hearings against them.

The Chief of Staff at the Hospital of Specialties of the IHSS unveiled that around 60 doctors breached their contract and will be punished, running the risk that following their hearing, they will automatically not be included in the competition for some 380 jobs to be granted at the IHSS.

The outcome of the competition will be reported in about 10 days, according to staff management at the Hospital of La Granja.

Earlier this week, IHSS authorities said they have met the financial requirements for medical professionals working in this decentralized entity.  The IHSS forewarned personnel that it had issued instructions to the management of Human Resources to enforce internal regulations and take the necessary measures against all medical professionals who failed to fulfill their job.
