May Financial Report by IMF Approved

The Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington today approved the final report on the evaluation of the fourth article.
The IMF mission in May assessed the performance of the Honduran economy and recommended expanding controls over public expenditures, especially the wage bill which accounts for 90 percent of tax revenues.

The Finance Minister, William Chong Wong, told journalists that he had been informed unofficially that “the revision of article four passed without any problem” and that the report of the delegation from May “was approved.”

“This is good news because it has taken less than six months after the change of government,” he said.

Honduras is host this week to an international meeting between representatives of the international financial institutions and economic decision-makers in Central America and Panama on the financial situation of the region.
