Honduras Loses on Opening Day of CONCACAF

On the opening day of the CONCACAF Champions League (yesterday), Santos Laguna of Mexico defeated Honduras’s Real España, 3-2; and the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated Honduras’s Montagua, 2-0.

In Real España’s match, Santos Laguna’s Christian Suarez (who was a substitute) scored the deciding goal in the 74th minute to clinch their victory over Real España.

As for Motagua, Adam Cristman made the first Galaxy goal in the 13th minute, and Landon Donovan scored for the Galaxy in the 60th minute.

Motagua went down a man in the 70th minute when Ivan Guerrero went after a loose ball with his foot up in the air. Unfortunately, his foot made heavy contact with defender Sean Franklin’s chest when he missed the ball.

Despite being limited to 10 players, Honduras tried to get back into the match, but both times Josh Saunders kept Motagua off the board. The Galaxy had plays that could have extended their lead, but they were turned away by Honduras’ Donaldo Morales, who played a solid game.

At the end of the day, the Galaxy ended up in first place in Group A.
