Archbishop Bonello Heads Juticalpa Region

Due to failing health, Bishop Tomás Andrés Mauro Muldoon has resigned his post in Honduras. Pope Benedict XVI, has therefore appointed Archbishop José Bonello as bishop of Juticalpa.

Archbishop José Bonello was born on April 4, 1961 in Xagħra, Gozo, and studied philosophy and theology at the National Institute of Religious Ecclesiastical Studies in Malta.

After moving to Honduras, he served as pastor of Santa Ana in La Libertad. In 2009, he was appointed vicar-general of the diocese of Comayagua, Honduras, and in 2010 bishop coadjutor of Juticalpa. He is 51 years of age.

WAIVER AND SUCCESSION OF BISHOP Juticalpa (HONDURAS)

The Holy Father Benedict XVI accepted the resignation from the ministry of the Diocese of Juticalpa (Honduras), presented by Bishop Tomás Andrés Mauro Muldoon, OFM, in accordance with canon 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law.

He was succeeded by Archbishop José Bonello, OFM, Bishop Coadjutor of that Diocese until now.
