ONE DROP, in collaboration with Teatro Taller Tegucigalpa, organized the 3rd International Meeting on Water, Social Arts and Popular Education, which took place on November 25, 26, 27 and 28th in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. This meeting provided a window of opportunity for fruitful exchanges and debates between partners, continuing the discussions held at previous meetings.

“This dynamic, creative sharing of experience and expertise was a golden opportunity to strengthen the community of practice. ONE DROP’s unique approach, based on social arts and popular education, can be perfected with the help of everyone’s contributions,” said Lili-Anna Peresa, Executive Director of ONE DROP.

This unique encounter brought together over 40 participants, representing 15 partners from ONE DROP’s intervention countries, including Canada, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, India and Haiti. Throughout the meeting, there were lively discussions aimed at continuously improving the “show” as a means of social change toward access to water and sanitation. The participants even had the opportunity to attend performances of the “Canicula” and “Cuentos de Camino Real” shows, which portray situations involving water, in order to encourage the adoption of responsible water management practices.

This four-day event stimulated discussion initiated during previous meetings with the aim of designing a common platform that takes into consideration the uniqueness of cultures and the diversity of practices. This initiative adds to the series of mobilizing projects deployed by ONE DROP since 2007, aiming to raise awareness, educate and mobilize the communities on issues relating to water.

The distinctive approach developed by ONE DROP is based on social arts and popular education. The “Ayiti Pawol Lapli ak Lakansyel” and “Thirst” shows, with their roots in Haiti and India, are just a few examples of creative productions aiming to reach out, educate and mobilize people to promote access to water for all, now and in the future.
