Player of the Week

Midfielder Amado Guevara has won MLS Player of the Week honours, the first time the award has gone to a Toronto FC player in the club’s three-year history.

The Honduran captain scored two goals in a 3-1 victory over the visiting New England Revolution on Saturday.

It’s the fifth such award for Guevara and the first since the 2006 season when he was a member of the New York Red Bulls.

Guevara’s goals, his fourth and fifth of the season, helped Toronto improve to 4-3-4 and move into a second-place tie in the Eastern Conference with D.C. United.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters.
