Police Rescue Kidnapped Doctor

Doctor Arcadia Isabel Díaz Martínez, was rescued this morning by members of the Anti-Kidnapping Task Force (Geasa) of the National Police. The doctor was kidnapped on Tuesday, and was being held in a house in the Villa Cristina, near Campo Cielo, south of the capital. The operation was coordinated by Security Minister Oscar Alvarez.

Dr. Díaz Martínez had spent the week sleeping on the floor of a bathroom in a very humble home, but told the national press that her kidnappers respected her physical integrity, and even bought her medications, which she needed daily.

Despite her precarious condition, Arcadia Isabel Diaz said she never lost the confidence of ever seeing her family, her son and his father. “I am a servant of God and always have his wisdom” she said.

One of the suspected kidnappers caught guarding Dr. Díaz Martínez, is only 18 years old, but authorities have already begun preliminary investigations to trace the “leaders.” The young man was identified as Hector Amador Matute, who was handed over to prosecutors for questioning, in order to obtain more information on those involved.
