Police searh for Edwin Palacios remainders in Omoa

Elements from the National Criminal Investigation (DGNIC) in San Pedro Sula captured the head of the 18 gang, Elmer Orellana and Alexander Reyes and then moved to El Paraiso village in Omoa, Cortes in search for the remains of Edwin Rene Palacios, 17, who was abducted from his family´s home on October 30th of 2007, in La Ceiba, Atlantida.

The detectives arrived at dawn to a mountanous area where there are cacao cultivation, two kilometers from the village, after Alexander Reyes informed them that was the place they had buried the remains of the boy who was only 15 when he was abducted. Edwin Rene Palacios is the broter of Honduran soccer players Jerry, Wilson, Milton and Jonny Palacions.

His abducters inicially asked for a ransom of three million lempira, but then asked for 200 thousand US dollars, the police back then suspected the criminal action was the work of gang members, the boy´s family made collections and mortgaged their home and properties to pay the ransom but the boy was never returned.

One of the gang members captured confirmed they had taken the boy´s life in that area. With that information, the detectives started excavating during early morning hours, covering an area of six acres of land without any positive results.

Both Elmer Orellana and Alexander Reyes where captured on Monday by the Police, in colonia La Pradera of San Pedro Sula. The criminals had two communication radios, one AK-47, one nine millimeter weapon, two chargers, and a bullet proof vest that belonged to the Police.

Police also suspect both criminals where involved in the death of the alternate vice-president of the Nationcal Congress, Mario Fernando Hernandez Bonilla, along with Marco Collier last november.
