US Doesn’t Recognize the Honduras Government

In a press conference this afternoon, Arturo Valenzuela, Assistant Secretary of Western Hemisphere Affairs for the United States of America, clarified under pressure, that the United States does not recognize the current Honduran government and believes at this point, that Manuel Zelaya is the official President of Honduras.

He reiterated that he cannot speculate on their position in the future, but that first the Honduran National Congress must vote on the possible reinstatement of Zelaya, then ensure the formation of a unity government, and fulfill the remaining items of the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement.

He did congratulation Pepe Lobo on his victory, and acknowledged that he won the elections that took place yesterday, and looks forward to a dialogue with Mr. Lobo.

Listen up amigos! This does not surprise me at all. I saw it coming. Zelaya says..’Reina said Zelaya sought to complete his four-year term, including the time lost since the military packed him away in his pajamas in June.’ according to AFP. Get that..including the time lost!!! I knew it! He never wanted the election and will never respect the will of the Honduran people. When will they drag his butt out of the embassy and lock him up out of sight and sound? Zelaya is a selfish animal who does not love poor people or catrachos, only himself.

    Mr. ‘watefall’,

I will answer your statement to the best of my abilities, if it is not good enough, I apologize in advance.

Honduras has one of the best track records for respecting the rights of its citizens and for allowing freedom of speech.

It most definetly has a better record that the Soviet Union did, or Red China, or Korea, or Cambodia, or Communist Germany, and many of the so called “Workers Paradises” that for the last 100 years or so have been exploiting the ignorance of their people and offer them an imposible to achieve future, one that sounds great but it is nothing more than a lie.

Oops, I forgot Cuba and Venezuela on that list, and of course a few more followers of those two so called leaders, Castro and Chavez.

I do not know if you partake in your opinion, with the Human Rights Organization and with that other foe of civility and humanity known as Amnesty International, but I tell you I do not.

And that may be the difference between you and I, for to me, all Humans have rights, not only the violent rioters and communists, I did not hear anybody from those organizations even attempting to defend the rights of the many thousands of Honduran children who did not have a chance to attend school because their leftist teachers decided to go on strike, nor did I hear anybody from their group defending the rights of the business owners who had their locales attacked and some times destroyed, or the rights of the people who worked in those places, the ones that lost the right to feed their children because they had no means to earn a living.

If you consider a show of freedom of speech to have some animal like Zelaya calling for people to go and destroy private property and to attack private citizens simply to instill fear in the community, than we have a very different view in what freedom of speech entails.

Do not forget also, every right that humanity has carries with it a duty and responsability.

Expressing your opinion is not the same thing that impossing your beleves.

Wisen up, wake up and smell the coffee, there is a lot of ignorant people in the world, but also some people that know how to properly interpret what they read.

  3. 10oooArrows  December 1, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Well, I would just like to say Congratulations!!! I am so happy to see the people stand up and show the rest of the world that they are Democratic. I wish the best for Honduras and I respect the people and the country. I am not concerned about how the U. S feels about the new President? U.S. citizens should follow a similar road…Stand Up!!!

    mwatefall –

There are Human Rights Violations in every country, including the powerful USA. Now nobody says that the USA government is illegitimate. The human rights violations in Venezuela and Cuba are extreme, yet those governments are recognized. Chavez uses mobs (mercenaries), cuts funding, threatens firerings, to push his people around, but his government is recognized. Honduras has had a great track record through that last 20 years, better than most of the countries of the world.

Now, as for the constitution, for a country it is basis for all the laws in ther country (not for other countries). Honduras has a working constitution, and it should be respected and followed to avoid the breakdown of the society or the creation of tyrants (like Venezuela and others in ALBA). It has a prescribed process for amendments, this is also a protection to prevent the strength of the constitution from being weakend to serve one man’s ambitions (Chavez in Venezuela). Zelaya did not follow the process and paid the price. Pepe will have to follow the process or pay the price as well.

The Honduran Constitution may not be perfect (no constitution is), but it was able to do something that Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Ecuador have failed to do – prevent one man form gaining too much power and become an intrenched tyrant. History will show how strong the Honduran Constitution is, how well it protected the rights of Hondurans to freedom of choice and livelyhood, and how little Honduras stood up to the world to protect it.

  5. Al  December 1, 2009 at 11:54 am

Zelaya is an isolated monster now. The world community needs to “save face” for their support of this ego-maniac, Castro-Chavez-like tyrant to be; that is why some governments are so adamant to acknowledle publicly their big mistake in supporting Zelaya at first. Thank God for the Micheletti government, including the armed forces, and the Honduran people.
The Micheletti interim government will go down in history as the one who saved Honduras and Latin America from Castro-Chavism.
Hugo Chavez lost! Democracy and Pepe Lobo won!
    Z’liar is done, caput!

  6. mwatefall  December 1, 2009 at 11:37 am

Honduras is a wonderful place. I love the people and my family there.

But we have to swallow our pride. Not everything ehere is good and dandy! We have to better the way our government is being runned or next time we will have a more clever and dangerous President to deal with

Peace and again my respects to all

  7. mwatefall  December 1, 2009 at 11:32 am

    Axel

You stated: ” you make it sound as if they are not repected and granted in my country, Honduras.”

I lived in your country and I don’t know the people you know, but there are human rights violations in Honduras! That is a known fact! Maybe, you have never met anyone who has been a victim.

I’m sure that Honduras is not heaven on earth. The Constitution is not the Bible. Maybe to some people, but no one can say, it is the Bible to “everyone” in Honduras. It is not perfect and I personally know many Hondurans who are saying the same thing. The Constitution needs improvement! And I hope Pepe Lobo sees that too!

    Peace

  8. Axel Reyes Bogran  December 1, 2009 at 11:08 am

I hope that we are not just agreeing to disagree!!

Change is needed in Honduras, yes, but it has to start with prevention of and to fight off corruption, for it is the core of the problems in our beloved country.

Pepe Lobo has the oportunity to do the right thing for Honduras, the simple fact that the whole world will be watching very closely should give him the ecouragement and the excuse to say no to all the corrupt people that are sure to come looking for ways to act and behave corruptly arround and in the new government.

But it still bothers me that the issue of freedom of speech and the protection of basic rights keeps on being adressed as if it was a current problem in Honduras, it is not.

Again I say, we have some of the best record on those issues.

Now, if you want to tell me that we did wrong for arresting the rioters and violent protesters who were threatening the rights and safety of law abiding citizens, then we have a problem.

It has been the norm for many years that when people fail to respect the rights of other people, they loose some rights also in the eyes of the law.

So, if you are going to adress this issue, after what my country just went thru, I ask of you, at least be responsible for the way you express your concerns.

I do not hear you condemming the way in which that monster Zelaya was calling for bloodshed, chaos and destruction, seeking instability and possible violent armed respnoses by the military, which by the way, behaved exemplary well.

  9. loui ayala  December 1, 2009 at 10:27 am

    To: mwateful

It is not ignorance to defend your own country specially the governing laws of your country. Honduras defended very well what is right for their country and not for the convenience of others to manipulate this very loving country. I am not from honduras nor a citizen of honduras but i followed thru from the very start what happened. I just can’t take that such a fool with no heart can do this to his own country. “mwateful” we have different views and i respect that, but would you take a chance to put this “lunatic guy” back to power and wait for things to happen with uncertainty? When Noriega in Panama was taken by the U.S Army and that is not even their country, how come there was no condemnation on that action? So, tell me which one is right and wrong now…the people that defends their own governing laws or foreigners that tresspasses affairs of others?

  10. Al  December 1, 2009 at 10:25 am

    TO MWATEFALL:
I agree with you: criticism and the right to disagree is at the core of democracies, which unlike totalitarian regimes stay stuck with one point of view. So welcome to the site. You have a point about improving things. There is always room for improvement, and God knows that every country in our very troubled world needs improvement, especially in the midst of this world economic crisis caused by greed and lack of a social consciense that does not seem to be resolved no matter how much money the rich nations inject into their economies.
Now with Pepe Lobo’s presidency it is crucial to improve the country in terms of education, health care and poverty and many other issues, so that another Zelaya-like tyrant to be does not get in there with a false message and win the next elections. The whole world will be watching, so, yes, this is a very important time to make positive changes and to show the Castros and the Chavezes that there is no need to fall into their outdated failed tyrannical, totalitarian doctrines to achieve peace and prosperity in Honduras.
Peace and blessings to you too, MWATEFALL.

  11. Axel Reyes Bogran  December 1, 2009 at 10:07 am

Mr. ‘watefall’, welcome to this site, I am happy that you show interest in the on goin situation in my country.

What I do not understand is your stance clamoring for the right to free speech and respect for liberties, because you make it sound as if they are not repected and granted in my country, Honduras.

For your information Honduras has been known to have some of the best track records on both of those.

The Human Rights organization has had so much influence in Honduras that now the criminals are running the country, since their representative over there, Ramon Custodio decided that only criminals are Human and their right are the only ones to be protected.

Freedom of speech has always been present in my Honduras, the problem we normally face is that some people confuse free speech with irresponsible and documented lies.

In the event that you may have been following the situation in Honduras, you will see that the ones complaining about lack of respect for those were Zelaya’s followers.

    Do you even wonder why??

Zelaya called for people to not go out, to stay away from the ballot boxes, to decry a wrong that never was.

The people of Honduras did not listen to him, they came out to vote in record numbers.

    Does that tell you anything??

The Constitution of Honduras clearly states when certain legal proceedings can take place if a certain type of violation occurs.

As does article # 239, and that is the one that guided the decision process that the Supreme Court followed.

    To Susana and loui ayala:

“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.” – Winston Churchill

Note: I am not a Zelaya supporter. This is my first time to this site, and miraclemant has taken my aforementioned comments, and portrayed me as someone else. And this is the kind of ignorance we have to deal with in the Honduran government

    Peace

  13. mwatefall  December 1, 2009 at 8:59 am

    Dear miraclemant…

Sorry to dissappoint you, but how is changing the constitution, has to do with being a United States citizen.

    Did I say I was a U.S. citizen???

Sorry, but if you love your people, you will improve your Constitution – simple

    Peace

  14. gonow  December 1, 2009 at 8:58 am

last week the supreme court decided and voted for the second time that to have zelaya in office is illegal becouse of what he has done and the 18 charges against him now tomorrow [dec 2] the honduran congress will vote again on zelaya …i am sure they will not vote him in again after that there is going to be a good opportunity for the u.s. to safe face and accept the new government and put a stop to this nonsense ……….if they don’t they must have a secret alterior motive to get zelaya back in…

  15. El guapo  December 1, 2009 at 8:16 am

Honduras please jail this international punk for his criminal and corrupt conduct and solve this problem Can you imagine his friend Hugo praising Carlos the Jackal a terrorist in French custody recently. says a lot for who he supports. Honduras charge this man and take him out of this equation for good push past these Socialist Idiots who want to control and create their own little world

  16. Axel Reyes Bogran  December 1, 2009 at 6:22 am

Hello my compatriots, and Honduras lovers, and for “mwatefall”, I would love it that if you are going to express your opinion about Honduras and its ways, at least be informed and be fair, it may be your right to express your self, but if you want to exercise that right, you should then accept your responsability and duty to be fair and truthfull.

The problem with people like Zelaya goes far beyond him having broken Constitutional Law, it is also his lack of love for country and his selfishness, characteristics that when you are talking about a private citizen may not matter much, but very important when you are talking about a President.

And for the rest of you on the comments, it is very obvious to me that many are missing the main point of the message, it clearly states that the Honduras Congress should vote, wether yes or not, for Zelaya to be reinstated , not that he should be, but that the vote should happen, because that is what the agreement states would happen.

They can vote no, and we still will be within the terms of the agreement, and so it should be, no to his reinstatement.

The USA is not blind nor stupid, they saw the turn out of voters, they know that Zelaya asked the people to stay home and not vote, they know the people did not listen to him.

  17. loui ayala  December 1, 2009 at 4:39 am

Guys!!!!! isn’t it ridiculous that USA won’t recognize the current Honduran government ans still maintaining the “deleb cowboy” as the legal president. I really want to throw up how dirty the politics are and we the people are the one that put them there. …..promises and promises…and blind voters and blind voters….are fooled over and over again by this masquerading politicians…..So guys, let us open our minds and hearts when we choose our leaders not by bribery…like my uncle Hugo was trying to do with my poor adopted country by giving ” light bulbs and petroleum” in exchange of your freedom and almost a country for sale……Sorry uncle Hugo and Grandpa Fidel and Raul..it did not work out . People in Honduras are poor but they don’t have the brain of a cockroach….he..he…he unlike the people of uncle Hugo.

  18. loui ayala  December 1, 2009 at 4:20 am

    To mwatefall,

Maybe you are forgetting that your hero ( Z’liar)was the cause of this monstrous problem in Honduras. Had it not been for his idiot ambition and corrupt act along with his family and relatives and cronies maybe, Honduras is in a better situation right now. So , let me ask you …
what do you think your idiot hero was doing when he sent his own mob to the air force base to retrieve the illegal ballots printed in his brother’s country in Venezuela? what does that mean to you the legal way? inspite of the warning of the congress and supreme court ?at least this election will justify that people’s voices will be heard but not betrayed after the support of the people was given to your “hero”. let me tell you also that a constitution was made by the people of a specific country based on their practice, beliefs and traditions and laws that conform to them not for other countries, that is why , each country have their own laws, constitution and that you have to follow once you are in their place……understood?
I hope you tell you hero to return the money that they stole from the people of honduras and Xiomara to sell her jewelries as she charge it to the account of the government of Honduras…how is that? So, Honduras doesn’t need to change their constitution because it suits the people that lives there , only of course who has a vested interest like you know “who” ? nad maybe like you also……

  19. miraclemant  November 30, 2009 at 11:27 pm

    10000Arrows….. obama wants z’liar in office for 2 reasons;

    1. because they are of like minds. obama was once caught on tape saying the Constitution limits him in what he wants to do, and gets in his way.

    2. because z’liar was a drug trafficer, and thru this supplied monies to further the leftist/marxist/communist agenda that they both support.

Do you really think that obama would not declare himself dictator if he could get away with it? His administration has been quoted as saying “never waste a good crisis”…….. I predict that within the next 3 years there will be some major crisis in the USA and obama will declare marshall law, suspending the USA Constitution, then they will be able to fully implement thier redistribution of wealth which was the core of the communist agenda.

The world governments can NOT continue to spend money and go further and further into debt………. there WILL be a day of reconning!!

Did you know that the obama administration has added more debt to the USA than all the previous presidents COMBINED since the country was founded??

obama in just 8 short months, and added $1,420,000,000,000 to the USA debt! ! ! !

The USA debt now stands at $12,800,000,000,000 and growing daily ! ! !

The total external debt of Honduras at the end of 2008 was $2.3 billion (43,470,000,000L), representing 23.2% of GDP.

My household must live within it’s means, when are we going to force our governments to do so also, as it stands, even our great-grandchildren will still be paying off the debt of our reckless and wasteful generation.

sorry for diverting from this article. jaja

  20. Al  November 30, 2009 at 11:05 pm

Chilean Arturo Valenzuela is well known to like and support Hugo Chavez and his revolution. With all his degrees the man looked like an idiot when questioned by US Republican Congressmen about Honduras. I think he repeated”It seems like” at least three times when questioned, without giving any kind of definite opinion about the situation in Honduras. I invite anyone to do research on this man. The Assisstant Secretary for Latin American affaitrs is a ‘ROJO, ROJITO”

  21. Al  November 30, 2009 at 10:15 pm

If Zelaya had any good intentions towards the Honduran people he would call for national unity and support Democracy and the elections in Honduras. Instead as the egomaniac that he is, he puts himself and his selfish interests first; which shows the real Z’liar that he is.
Pepe Lobo, congratulations! Be a good president so that another Z’liar will never be a president of Honduras.

  22. 10oooArrows  November 30, 2009 at 10:00 pm

People..Open Your Minds Please!!! You have to ask yourself..What Does The U.S Gain By Keeping Zelaya In Power??? That Is The Question You Need To Implant In Your Minds!!! Yes…The U.S. Knows What Happened..Yes..he Violated the Constitution..But Yet…They Still Want Him!! Look Deep…Do Not Listen To The Papers….The Answer Is In Front Of You!

  23. waterfrontjim  November 30, 2009 at 9:51 pm

Who cares what the Obama administration thinks…the people of the US recognize the Honduras government and denounce Zelaya….Obama can rot the rest of his life in Cuba with Zelaya dreaming about how they could have been communist dictators for life if only free people and the Constitution had not got in their way….

  24. Susana  November 30, 2009 at 9:51 pm

Sorry miraclemant my message was meant for the other person not you but for mwatefal

  25. tfbarthelemy  November 30, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Asst. Secretary Valenzuela and his Marxist puppetmaster, Obama, are as stupid as they are corrupt. The Honduran Constitution and the Law Library of (the US) Congress expose their falsehoods. But when, we Americans ask, are the Republicans in Congress, the honest media and the hundreds of thousands of Honduran American citizens going to finally raise their voices against this White House betrayal of long-held U.S. and OAS principles?

  26. Susana  November 30, 2009 at 9:47 pm

miraclemant – what are you doing in Honduras? It seems you would fit in better in Venezuela or Cuba; with that mentality I’m sure they would take you in. More surprising is that the US speaks of democracy yet they want Zelaya in power – double standard I would call that. If you were there during the Carias days you would not be able to critize our government our constitution or our country, thank your lucky stars.

  27. miraclemant  November 30, 2009 at 8:25 pm

mwatefall………the elections were overseen by more than 3,000 international election personel, and was labeled a model of open and fair elections by the international observers. They called the elections fair and honest, not the government of Honduras. get it right…….

  28. miraclemant  November 30, 2009 at 8:22 pm

mwatefall……. if you do not like our constitution then maybe you should go back to the USA and leave HonduraS politics to Honduran’s!!

Our Constitution has a provision for removing a president who violates the constitution by trying to extend his term limits (which our Constitution only allows 1 term as president), it is in article 239 of our Constitution. Just because our constitution is NOT like yours, does not make our’s wrong, or your’s right, just different in the way we handle things.

We do have freedom of speech within certain limits, just like your Constitution does not allow total freedom of speech, there are certain limits in your constitution as well.

Our Constitution was written the way it was written after the political turmoil of the 70’s in all of Central America, and was specifically written to forbid a president to extend his term, with very clear and precise events that would take place if he tried (the Constitution states that a president will immediately forfet his office).

z’liar was warned by both the Supreme Court and the Congress to stop trying to illegally change the Constitution to allow him to stay in power……. and by thus doing so, he forfeited his presidency at his own hand as per our Constitution. Our rule of law works for us…..

So…….. KEEP OUT OF OUR INTERNAL POLITICS, AND LET US RUN OUR OWN COUNTRY ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  29. mwatefall  November 30, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Just because ZELAYA WAS CORRUPT does not mean that the Honduran government, which called the elections was right!

Honduras needs to get off its high horse and CHANGE its CONSTITUTION for the Better!

They need to respect people’s rights and freedoms of speech and liberties.

They need a proper law in place on how to rightfully IMPEACH a sitting President.

These things and the guidelines they should comply with, if they truly love their country!

I hope Pepe Lobo does what is best for the country – AND NOT FOR HIS OWN INTEREST

    Peace

  30. miraclemant  November 30, 2009 at 4:23 pm

I wish the USA would just take a short jump off of a tall building and leave Honduras to run their own internal affairs!!!

    Mel’s lament

    “More insignificant day by day
I wish Micheletti would just go away.
    Pepe Lobo, Elvin Santos too.
    What’s a poor ex-president to do?

I am very sad when I don’t get my way.
I won’t be dictator, not even one day.
I like it much better and smile with glee
When the whole world is thinking of me.

Maybe Nicaragua will take me in.
They’ve got Ortega, I’ll fit right in.
    Or Venezuela, maybe Brazil.
My head hurts a little and I’m feeling ill.”

  32. gonow  November 30, 2009 at 2:30 pm

here is where the politisions famous double talk starts………..even in this statement ………”at this point zelaya is the official president of honduras”……………now in the next sentens …. ” the honduran congress must vote on the possible …reinstatement of zelaya”…… you cannot ‘reinstate’ something that still is………..than he congratulated lobo on winning ; what did lobo win ??? the presidensie of course …….the sooner they stop playing around with words the easier it is………..

  33. Al  November 30, 2009 at 1:50 pm

This is all saving face rhetoric. It is interesting that Cristina Fernandez calls the Honduran elections “a rehearsal” forgetting the famous briefcase filled with dollars coming from Venezuela that helped Argentina to become another Castro Chavista satellite.
