Velasquez Wants Peace

The head of the combined headquarters of the Armed Forces, Romeo Vásquez Velasquez, who was dismissed by the President Wednesday night, and reinstated by the Supreme Court of Justice yesterday, stated that Honduras needs a constructive dialogue among the country’s politicians to find a solution to the current situation.   What would follow is war, and there is still time to resolve the conflict peacefully, he said.

He indicated the military’s position is simply to maintain order until the authorities of the country are able to reunite and find a solution.   All  possible peaceful solutions should be exercised.  He believes the military has an obligation to protect the public, and there is nothing for Hondurans to fear.  The military will always respect the Constitution of the Republic,  and maintain public order.
