Zelaya to Continue Life of Luxury

After 129 days of confinement in the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Zelaya, his wife, and his adviser Rasel Tome, left.

They were escorted by Honduran President, Porfirio Lobo, and headed to the Dominican Republic from Toncontin International Airport, along with President Leonel Fernandez, where they boarded a plane to the Caribbean.

The former president received security measures “unprecedented”, said one of the guards assigned to the Brazilian Embassy. So much so, that it was impossible for the media to photograph his exit from the building.

The Dominican Republic Ambassador in Honduras, Jose del Carmen Acosta, said Zelaya received a visa for one year while deciding what to do with his life. It is presumed that the ex-president will remain for a period of fifteen days in the Dominican, and later establish his residence in Mexico.

Five others traveling with Mr. Zelaya were not so lucky. They were turned over to the District Attorney’s Office before boarding the flight. Those persons were charged with criminal offenses, and taken to answer to those charges.

Upon arriving in the Dominican, Zelaya said his host had performed a “historical rescue,” and with his departure “Honduras begins to feel a relief.”

Mr. Zelaya and Xiomara, his wife, are now in an exclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. He will stay in Casa de Campo, La Romana, an exclusive resort town where personalities like Julio Iglesias, Oscar de La Renta, and Sharon Stone visit.

Luxury Resort in Dominican Republic

A change from the Brazilian Embassy

The complex of villas Casa de Campo, La Romana, offers the lifestyle of a 5 star luxury hotel. It is “considered the most complete resort in the Caribbean, and is perhaps the most famous, luxurious, and complete resort in the world”, according one internet website.

Overlooking the ocean, enjoying the sea breeze and swinging his hat in the infinite blue sky, Zelaya may not want to travel to Mexico afterall.

The big question Dominicans are now asking themselves, is, “Who will pay for the stay of the Honduran “guest”?

    Good question…who will pay?
It would almost be funny if he went to Mexico and got kidnapped. Somebody should write a book. or make a movie.
