The victim was 34, and worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in British Columbia. He was French-Canadian, from Montreal, and living in Abbotsford, B.C.

Vallee-Apostolakis was shot outside an off the grid bar in Coxen Hole named “La Cueva” (The Cave) in Roatan.  As the usual tourist bar was closing, Vallee, accompanied by two Honduran women he had met in one of the bars, followed the bartender to one that was still open. Vallee was not comfortable there, so he and his friends chose to leave. When they left, the group walked down a dark stretch of gravel road to catch a taxi.  Two men in a pickup truck, who allegedly followed them from the bar, approached Vallee and demanded his smartphone and cash.  When he resisted, they then killed the Canadian with a shot to the head.
