Honduran Shrimp Exports to exceed $220, million Dollars during 2014
This represents an increase of 7.4 per cent compared with 2013, when revenues of USD 204.7 million were obtained, according to a report prepared by Honduras Central Bank (BCH).
BCH statistics also indicate that in 2012 shrimp exports reached USD 167.8 million.
According to Victor Wilson, president of Andah, these projections are based on an increase in foreign demand, better international price and a higher volume of processed shrimp.
Wilson also noted that the export of fresh, frozen and processed shrimp volume might range from 70 to 72 million pounds during the current year, newspaper El Heraldo reported.
Meanwhile, Honduran aquaculture entrepreneurs announced the start of negotiations in the United States, Mexico, Taiwan and the European Union (EU), the main destinations of the shrimp farmed in Choluteca and Valle.
According to Andah for every 1,000 hectares of farmed shrimp, the production is three million pounds.
This year, it is estimated that companies associated to such entity will stock between 21,000 and 22,000 hectares.
ANDAH is a private institution with legal status, nonprofit, obedient to the laws of the State of the Republic of Honduras and is composed of producers, processors, exporters and suppliers of inputs and services for the development of Aquaculture, who must be legally established in the country in compliance with the laws of the Nation.
Its primary purpose contribute to the improvement, consolidation and increase in activities to develop the aquaculture sector in the country, meaning that the activities related to the production of Hydrobiology species (animals or plants) that are of interest in the Aquaculture to be for the production of food for human consumption, raw material for subsequent industrialization and / or use them as ornamental or recreation.
