HONDURAS: The Honduran government says it has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for three wind projects in the country totalling 120MW, with construction scheduled to start on all before end-2013.

The contracts, with state-owned utility Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE), include two new projects developed by local real estate giant Grupo Terra in the southern coastal department of Choluteca.

Terra affiliate Vientos de Electrotecnia is developing the 49MW San Marcos project. Another affiliate, Vientos de San Marcos, is developing the neighbouring 45MW Chinchayote project. Both contracts set a power price of US $148/MWh.
A third PPA was signed with Costa Rica-based Globeleq for a 24MW extension to its existing 102MW Cerro de Hula plant, the country’s first wind plant, online since 2011. The power price set for phase two is US $120/MWh.

The contracts follow German turbine manufacturer Nordex’sacquisition of a 300MW wind project portfolio in Honduras from developer R4E in September 2012.
