Missing Belize Children Located in Honduras

A father’s determination to locate his children resulted in success this morning.
Two children from southern Belize who were reported missing more than ten days ago have now been reunited with their father. Eight year old Nehemiah Romero and his big sister Nine year old Fanny Romero were greeted by their father early this morning in Copan, Honduras. As we reported, the grandfather Juan Jovel reportedly took the children but according to the father, Felix Romero, it was all a huge misunderstanding. After getting word that his children were in Honduras, Romero then made his way to them and today from Copan, Honduras; Romero spoke exclusively to Love News via phone.

“It was until this morning that I got the chance to speak with them and now they are under my custody. The grandfather had them. He brought them here. According to what he told me, the children followed him and he couldn’t take them back and so he brought them with him. They are doing fine. They are happy. I have three days that I am here in Honduras. At the moment we are thinking on whether or not to lay charges of kidnapping against him because truly he didn’t do it intentionally. I asked the children why they followed their grandfather and they said that they were bored. They personally followed him when he went out to catch the bus at the entrance of San Juan Village. I asked him why he didn’t return to take them back but he says that he didn’t have enough time to do so. So I told him that he even took them to the hospital; he had them for two days here in Belize so, he could have done so. Plus the children said that they didn’t want to go back home. They said they wanted to come to Honduras with their grandfather. My wife is very happy that we have found our children. He left the country on Saturday. The children are doing great. They are not hurt. We are just waiting for some money to travel back to Belize so that we can take them to the police station in order to show them that I have found my two children.”

According to Romero, the grandfather Juan Jovel is not considering returning to Belize since he is not a Belizean.
