Radio HRN – Cablevision Journalist Killed

TV reporter Henry Suazo was killed this morning outside his home in La Masica, in the Department of Atlantida. The motive for the murder is not yet known, and the killers, who escaped the scene, were not identified.

Suazo worked for Radio HRN, and for television channel Cablevision.
Cablevision owner, Jorge Abilio Diaz, said Suazo was leaving his home when he was shot.

Human Rights Watch, HRW, in a report issued this December, said the Honduran authorities must investigate 47 attacks and/or threats, including 18 murders, that have been committed since January against journalists, political activists, and human rights defenders.

President Porfirio Lobo earlier this year requested assistance from friendly countries like the United States to investigate the recent crimes against journalists in Honduras.

It is a sad condition that our contryfolk keep on being murdered every day as if it did not matter.
Yes, it comes out on the news media, but the real problem is not being adressed, which is the lack of care for Human Life and the lack of fear of there being any consequences to the actions of the criminals.
The “Human Rights” organization complaints about their people being hurt but choose to ignore that much of the conditions in Honduras that regard to crime are nothing if not the consequences of their actions 25 + years ago, when they de-clawed and de-fanged the Police and State Security Forces by attacking them at every possible turn.
Yes, it is true that problem is big, but so was the Mafia for the United States, and they were able to counter it, and if so much do we pride ourselves that they are no better than we are, than we should also be able to control the crime wave that is destroying Honduras, both its past, present and worse, its future.
How can we increase the flow of Tourist into Honduras when we do not guarantee them the safety that will allow them to enjoy the beautiful sights of our country, the warmth of our people, the richness of our history.
If we do not wake up from our dream of “everything is ok” we are going to be stuck in poverty and slip into missery.
