LMFAO Honduras Concert Ends in Flames

LMFAO was forced to stop their concert at the National Coliseum of Engineers last night, as smoke from fire burning inside began to fill the arena.

More than 7,000 people were evacuated from the coliseum, East of Tegucigalpa in the early hours this morning.

“Twelve people were given attention for anxiety and nerves and another group of about ten for smoke inhalation,” a Green Cross rescuer, Maynor Rodríguez reported.

According to the source, the alarm sounded when a dense funnel of smoke arose from the basement of the coliseum and spread through the stands, supposedly due to an overheating of the electrical lines.

Firefighters mobilized ten units of firefighters. The Red Cross, Green Cross, and police moved a dozen ambulances to the scene, where they evacuated those attending the concert.

“We were able to control the situation, so there was no extra damage by a stampede; we worked to relax people, and thus avoid a tragedy,” said Rodriguez.

“There were no casualties in regards to human lives, and the origin of the fire will be investigated by specialists”, according to firefighter Angel Arturo Tróchez.

After the show, Redfoo tweeted about the incident, saying, “Epic concert tonight!!!! Everybody in Honduras, we set the place on fire!!!!” He also tweeted, “They told us that there was a fire when we were on stage. Then we went to the dressing rooms and there was smoke in the halls.”

The entertainer tweeted a bit later on, “On a serious note. Hope everybody is safe from the fire tonight! Love you Honduras!”

Airport Departure Tax Will Be Eliminated

Due to the complaints of the Honduran people, and pressure from the media, the additional 23 dollar fee to exit the country will be lifted in 15 days.

President Porfirio Lobo Sosa announced yesterday that the government will discontinue the increase in cost beginning in January. The measure had been adopted by Congress at midnight on December 14th, to the dismay of the population.

Hondurans currently pay an international departure tax of 34.80 dollars, and foreigners pay 37.80 dollars. The increase voted upon by Congress would have almost doubled those fees. The additional money was to be used to build a public airport at Palmerola in Comayagua to replace the Toncontín airport in Tegucigalpa.

The President added that the new airport terminal is still a priority, “not a day passes that we are not preoccupied about this airport in Tegucigalpa – Toncontiacute;n. Even football teams who come to play Honduras, typically want the game not to be in the capital, because of the problem of the airport, but in San Pedro Sula“. The government is looking at alternatives to fund the 300 million dollars needed for its development.

Entrepreneurs in the tourism industry and travelers alike protested the increase in the exit fee. If the fee were to remain in place, it would put Honduras as the country with the most expensive departure tax in Central America, and among the highest in the world.
