Zelaya Interview w/Democracy Now

Exerpt:

AMY GOODMAN: What reports, Mr. President, do you have of the human rights situation right now in Honduras—the murders, the beatings, the bombings?

PRESIDENT MANUEL ZELAYA: [translated] There are thousands of prisoners. There are illegal entries without search warrants into homes. Civilian rights have been denied. There’s a state of siege. There is not freedom of movement or of press. Youth are being assassinated. This is—there is terror like we have never seen in Honduras in this new twenty-first century coup.

Zelaya’s time is over; he attempted to gain support and presented a false and failed case….once the smoke cleared, he was seen for what he really is….

    Good riddens to bad rubbish!!!!
My wife is from Honduras. We’ve been married 11 years. We visit there frquently and last year built a retirement home down there. I feel much better about the new government then I did the old one. We are in constsant contact with family and friends down there. They pretty much agree that the change was for the better. They also report that none of what Zelaya says is going on is true. That things are pretty much normal.

I have lived in Honduras now for a year and half and Diane you are correct. I have met very very few people who want Mel back. Everything he does is with the intent of helping himself, even to the point he will lie. There is no truth in his statement!

Correas, You don’t know much about the situation do you? How did Mitchelette foce his way in when he was the next person in line for president by the Honduran Constitution. I have a lot of family in Honduras and they say that none of these things are true. As for the black outs. That is also a normal thing. I have been to Honduras several times and there has never been a time that I was there that we didn’t have a blackout, usually more than one. Those of you who have never been there have no idea what it is really like. They are years and years behind us in electric, water, sewer and everything else. There are very few places that you will find running water and flushing toilets. Get more info. before you start saying things that you know nothing about.

hey, if the neo-nazi’s are so anti Zelaya—–then remember good OLD ronnie reagon and his support for the mayian genecide in guatemala, just to name one of his death squads……. y’ll have fun billk

  8. Correas  July 30, 2009 at 11:31 pm

You know why is there then a blackout?! At least some of it is true and is verified by international sources. This is a dangerous return to the days of old, remember the dirty war? How about Guatemala, El Salvador, and Chile with presidents overthrown and the brutal dictators after? Sure maybe the defacto leader won’t be as bad but if they can get away with it why not? Remember one was voted in and the other forced his way in.

The international community should come and see firsthand all the fact that leads to his substitution because if they see his declarations on his intentions on changing the constitution to include reelection they would see he violated the constitution and what it implied, IC please get the facts right all of you.

I can’t believe the USA is supporting Zelaya

  11. Belen  July 30, 2009 at 9:43 pm

    Zelaya Big liar.

  12. John  July 30, 2009 at 9:18 pm

As someone who is here on the ground now, I find it funny that NONE of the things he is mentioning are actually a reality. He must be living on another planet.

Just got home from Honduras. You can spread this report on your flowers and make them grow better. Everyone I saw was going about their usual business in the usual way, except for the small minority who were Zelaya supporters who were burning tires in the roads and trying to block traffic.

  14. Scott  July 30, 2009 at 2:50 pm

That’s why we call him Mel Zeliar (emphasis on Liar). What a bunch of BS.

  15. Eloisa  July 30, 2009 at 1:59 pm

He is speaking out of his heart, as that is exactly what would have become of Honduras, were it not for the brave people who united as one to get rid of him. That was HIS plan, NEVER to become true…….thanks to our LORD and whom he enlightened!!!!!! …..even at the very last moment.

Spoken like someone who has been out of the country for 4 weeks – has no clue!

Terror? Assasinations? THOUSANDS of prisoners? I think he believes if he says it enough, it will be true…
