72 more hours of Rain for Honduras

The passing of the tropical wave number 39, an area of low pressure stationary in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, this system is accompanied by a large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms covering a large portion of the northwestern Caribbean sea and bringing torrential rains to Honduras for the next 48 to 72 hours especially for the areas of Puerto Cortes, Choloma and San Pedro Sula.

A COPECO representative has informed that this system will be less intense in the west of Honduras, therefore the levels of the rivers will decrease, however, we should remain alert in case of any changes in the weather.

COPECO has also been going thru the affected areas bringing aid and food to the victims with the help of the World Food Programe.

The representative informed there are still areas that are always flooded because of the rain such as Choloma and some areas in San Pedro Sula, Chamelecon, La Lima in Cortes.

The population living near El Merendon mountain such as Colonia Primavera, Juan Lindo, Miramelinda and others nearby should remain alert since the mountain can have an earth overweight because of all the rain and could cause landslides.

COPECO also declared yellow alert for Valle de Sula, reason why the population should remain alert at all times.

The flooding from earlier this week affected over 700 hectares of harvest African palm, corn, rice and others in El Progreso, Pimienta and Macuelizo, Santa Barbara where 16 communities remain incommunicado after the destruction of the main bridge that communicates these areas due to the overflow of the Ulua river.
