Miami U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles imposed the sentence Tuesday on Carlos Arnoldo Lobo, who was extradited from Honduras in May. Lobo was sent to the U.S. under a 2012 Honduras constitutional amendment allowing its nationals for the first time to be extradited.
U.S. authorities say Lobo moved cocaine for Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman, who was arrested in Mexico in February, as well as the Honduran drug-trafficking organization Los Cachiros. Lobo was also accused of laundering illicit drug proceeds into real estate, maritime vessels and seafood shipping businesses.
Lobo pleaded guilty to a cocaine trafficking conspiracy charge in September.
