The “narcopista” was in the midst of an African palm oil plantation in the municipality of La Masica, Atlantida. According to Adonay Padilla, Coordinator of the Public Ministry, the property belonged to Efrain Lopez Lara, who was killed last year in a disco in La Ceiba.
Access to the airstrip was difficult as the roads leading there were completely flooded due to heavy rains in the Atlantic region.
“With a backhoe, trenches were dug on the track to impede the landing of airplanes,” according to Elkie Allen, the prosecutor in charge.
Adonay Padilla also said they would continue fighting drug trafficking and would proceed in destroying more “narcopistas” located in various areas of the country.
