Amapala Honduras Evacuated

Some 18,000 people were “preventatively removed” in Amapala, Honduras for tsunami threats as a result of the earthquake that has devastated Japan.

Residents on the island of Amapala, yesterday began to leave their homes after a green alert was issued by the Permanent Contingency Commission, COPECO. Although the alert was called off at about seven in the evening yesterday, the coastal communities along the Gulf of Fonseca were safely alerted and encouraged to leave their homes earlier in the day.
