Geovanny Antonio Varela, who was out collecting metal for recycling, found two rocket-propelled grenades and put them in his bag. Unfortunately, one of the RPGs exploded when he arrived home and tossed the bag on the ground, killing his dog. The boy, his father, and two other relatives were wounded by the blast.
An armed forces spokesman told reporters he had no idea how the grenades could have ended up in an area in which the boy had access. The police bomb unit detonated the other RPG.
The four wounded civilians were taken to hospitals in Tegucigalpa and are out of danger.
