Cold Front to Continue – Green Alert Issued

The current climactic conditions are expected to continue until at least Friday, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN). Honduras will experience rainfall in the north and strong winds in the central part of the country for at least 48 hours, due to a cold air mass hovering between Honduras and Nicaragua, expanding into the Yucatan Peninsula.

The strong current of wind and clouds moving from the north to the south, passing over Central America and the Caribbean, marks the fifth cold front of the season. Minimum temperatures of 19 degrees Celsius are predicted for the central zone, 20 degrees Celsius for the northern area, and 12 degrees Celsius for the west. Most of the country will have cloudy skies and intermittent rain and drizzle.

The Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) has issued a green alert for the departments of the Bay Islands, Atlantida, Cortes, Columbus, and northern Yoro, due to the amount of rainfall expected.
