Deal Reached Over Bathroom Use

Joao Correa, 43, will face no charges in the March 28 episode aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Honduras to Atlanta if he successfully completes a “three-month pretrial diversion program”, attorney Natasha Silas said.

The businessman says he ate something bad and desperately needed to use the bathroom about 30 minutes into the flight, but found the single coach aisle on the Boeing 737 blocked by a beverage cart. He said he asked if he could use the lavatory in business class, but was denied. Transportation Security Administration policy requires passengers on international flights to use the restroom in their seating class.

When the cart wasn’t moved after a few minutes, Correa said he ran for the business class lavatory. He said the flight attendant put up her arm to block him, and he grabbed it to keep his balance. The pilot was called out to the cabin and allowed Correa to use the restroom.

Correa was arrested after the plane landed in Atlanta on a charge of interference with a flight crew and was held for two days in jail before a federal magistrate could hear his case.

Correa had to acknowledge that he did not handle the situation as well as he should have.

His lawyer praised federal prosecutors. “This is the right resolution. I’m glad Mr. Correa will be able to resume some level of normalcy in his life.”

Delta Airlines is by far the worst airline I have ever flown in. Bad seats, bad food, horrible customer service on board. What an idiotic flight attendant for blocking the bathroom with her arm. I would have probably punched her in the face, making my two days in jail worthwhile.

are the first class bathrooms so much better than coach? why on earth would the attendents protest to such a thing? are they not human? have they never had a problem whith the stomach? geez folks

Delta Airline, when they want to sell the ticket they are very nice but soon you are inside the airplane they show they real face! The Flight Attendants are too commanding when, someone wants to go, to the bathroom. Many people who travel with Delta, they decided never again! because, their airplanes or the the Pilots or doesnt have experience as Pilots but, you perfectly can feel, when the airplane, go so side to side, and then up and downs in minutes. Life is only one so becareful with this airlines.

haha! are you serious? this is ridiculous, if I was the flight attendant I would have been like go ahead, don’t let me be the one to keep you from doing your business. they arrested him for that?

when you have to go, you have to go, no matter what class your seat is in.
Would the other passengers rather have had to put up with the smell, if Correa did not make it to the bathroom in time.
