It was reported that off loading the water today in a controlled manner will lower the water level of the dam, which has reached the maximum extent of its capacity. The release is being controlled and monitored, as well as its effect on the Humuya and Sulaco rivers.
This off loading of water is expected to further increase the flow of the Ulúa River, which has already flooded some 20 communities in the Sula Valley, and others in the Department of Yoro.
The discharging of this water from the dam is approved by the authorities almost every year, in order to ensure its infrastructure, power generation, and flood control in the Sula Valley during the rainy season of Honduras.
