El Salvador Proposes Meeting

Salvadoran Chancellor, Hugo Martinez, said in a press conference today that El Salvador had proposed on Friday to hold a meeting amongst the Presidents of Central America to analyze the possibility of Honduras returning to the international community.
The idea was introduced at a reunion of the System of Central American Integration (SICA) that was hosted in Panama last week.

Martinez indicated that the meeting would most likely take place in Cancun, Mexico, on February 22nd and 23rd. The Chancellor said it was important that this discussion happen “as rapidly as possible” so that “the total reestablishment of the democracy in Honduras” in the eyes of the international community would take place quickly.

Honduras was suspended from SICA during the political crisis last year.
