First Lady Hosts Social Work Session

A meeting was sponsored by the First Lady of Honduras, Siomara Michelettti yesterday, and many of the wives of presidential candidates attended.

The meeting provided an opportunity to see what the current government is doing regarding social work, and what might be expected of the First Lady in the new administration.

Becky Manzanares (liberal), Rosa Elena de Lobo (national), Rossel Reyes Cloter (Pinu) and Adela de Echeverria (PDCH) met yesterday with the Social Cabinet, who discussed the country’s customs and the challenges the next First Lady may face.

“It is very encouraging to see things to come … I have a commitment to Honduras that I’ve taken with my husband,” said Rosa Elena, wife of Nationalist candidate Porfirio Lobo Sosa.

Becky, wife of Liberal Elvin Santos, said that they were committed to support projects with a social outreach that would impact poverty reduction. “A country can not cope with a 70 percent poverty,” said Becky Santos.

Rossel Reyes, said that her husband has planned a government program that includes the family as a priority, community development, and strengthening the capacities for children, youth and women.

Adela de Echeverria noted that the doctrine of her party has a strong support for social development.

The first lady explained that the current government has made efforts to support all of the ongoing social projects in the country.
