Five Departments Under Yellow Alert

Valle, Choluteca, Cortés, Yoro and Atlántida are still under yellow alert today according to the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO).

The head of the Early Warning System (SAT), Juan Jose Reyes, stated that the Ulúa river levels remain high, especially in the Santiago area. It has not yet reached a safe level, and the rainy season continues in the country.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) there were gusty winds and rain in La Ceiba, Atlántida due to a low pressure system that is affecting the entire Central American region,” he said.

The lowland areas surrounding Ulúa River; Potrerillos, Pimienta, San Manuel and Puerto Cortés in the Departament of Cortés; El Progreso, Santa Rita and El Negrito in the Departament of Yoro; and the Ramal del Tigre in Atlántida areas should be especially watchful.

The rest of the country is on green alert.

According to the latest National Weather Service analysis, rainfall expected in the country would be mild to moderate. Copeco urged citizens to take preventive measures, especially in vulnerable regions.
