Flooding Closes Passage Between Towns

The road between Tocoa and Trujillo has became impassable, as the Aguan river has overflowed onto the street. Over a dozen communities are affected.

Although the Ulua and Chamelecon river levels have dropped, the first cold front left several unfortunate events. The most affected areas are some municipalities in the departments of Cortes, Atlantida, Comayagua, Yoro and Colon. There are about ten municipalities affected, and about 35 neighborhoods and communities with flooding problems, Copeco has reported. Twelve roads suffered some damage in those departments.

Overall, 8 homes were left damaged, 62 people sought cover in shelters, and 12 families are homeless due to flooding, according to Copeco.

The authorities declared that the green alert issued on Sunday is suspended today, but is calling for people to stay informed through the media. People who live in areas prone to flooding and landslides were asked to remain alert to flooding rivers and streams in the surrounding areas.
