Fuel Prices to Drop on Monday

The Honduran government has authorized a third straight cut on oil products beginning on Monday.

According to preliminary figures, a gallon of super gasoline would drop 17 cents, regular gasoline would be reduced by 10 cents, and diesel will be costing 13 cents less.

In Tegucigalpa, service stations will be selling fuel at the price of 68.56 for super, 64.11 for regular, and 57.18 for diesel fuel.

Despite the objections to the new formula, the current administration is overriding the Decree PCM-M-37-2009, in force since December 16th of last year, which urged no changes for the consumers in the price of fuels, mainly super gasoline.
The Petroleum Technical Unit (UTP) will be maintaining the system for setting the weekly fuel structure.

The Patriotic Coalition has been pressing the government for the revision of the formula and has proposed to enlist the professional services of a U.S. expert, Robert Meyering, to collaborate on analyzing ongoing fuel prices for the fee of $250,000, equivalent to 4.7 million Lempiras.
