Green Alert Extended 48 Hours

The Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) decided to extend a heavy green alert for the departments of Gracias a Dios, Olancho, El Paraiso, Choluteca, Francisco Morazan and Columbus by 48 hours.

According to meteorological analysis, the rains continue to fall in most parts of the country, following the passage of the tropical wave number 12, and the expected incoming fallout from tropical wave number 13, on Tuesday.

Heavy rains have raised the bed of the Choluteca River, as well as the rivers Guampu, Guayambre and Guayape.

The forecaster with the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Ezequiel Oliva, told reporters that the current rainfall in Tegucigalpa and the surrounding area is from the presence of the tropical wave number 12. According to Oliva, the temperature will remain low throughout the country.

The extension of the alert is until 4:00 pm today.
