Green Alert for Honduras

COPECO declared green alert for Gracias a Dios, Colon, Atlantida, Bay Islands, Cortes, Yoro, Olancho and El Paraiso. This because in the past few hours, a low pressure system has formed East of Honduras and Nicaragua bringing showers and thunderstorms.

This phenomenon is likely to become a tropical depression. COPECO also informed that whether or not this system becomes a tropical cyclone it is likely to produce heavy rains over Gracias a Dios, Colon, Atlantida, Bay Islands, Cortes, Yoro, Olancho and El Paraiso since this phenomenon is moving towards the north and northwest of Honduras.

According to analysis from the Honduran National Meteorological service (SMN), we should expect heavy to moderate rains for the next 24 hours.

COPECO sub-commissioner, informed that this event is evolving and said an air force reserve unit hurricane hunter aircraft from Miami is scheduled to
Investigate the system.

In the areas under green alert, the rains will oscillate from 60 to 75 millimeters, as for the rest of the territory, the rains will remain anywhere from 15 and 30 millimeters with a maximum of 50.
