Happy Independence Day!

Early this morning, at the BCIE plaza in Tegucigalpa, the national flag of Honduras was presented to President Porfirio Lobo. The country flags of Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Nicaragua were raised as a tribute to the former integration of the Central American States, and finally the Honduran Flag was raised, in celebration of our nation’s Independence Day.

Showing their patriotism, everyone joined in singing the national anthem, and the Mayor of Tegucigalpa proceeded to read the Declaration of Independence.

President Porfirio Lobo Sosa shouted, “Viva la Independencia! Viva Honduras!,” with patriotic fervor, and recalled the struggle of national heroes and others who gave their lives for the liberation of the country.

Events will continue throughout the day, with the parade of high schools, as well as cultural events carrying out the customs and traditions of Honduras.

¡Feliz Día de la Independencia!
