Honduran Teachers Continue Striking

Honduran educators returned to the streets today, leaving thousands of Honduran school children once again without classes to attend.

Teachers are demanding the dismissal of Education Minister, Alejandro Ventura. They are unhappy with the order of the Minister of Education, which deducts days missed from teachers salaries when they do not hold classes (so that they can participate in protests such as these).

Recently, President Porfirio Lobo Sosa said the government would not negotiate to restore the deduction for non-working days. Teachers also are demanding the return of departmental directors who were dismissed earlier this year.
