Honduras Coffee Production Up

IHCAFE, the Honduras Coffee Institute, reported today that Honduran coffee production from the 2009-10 harvest through February 10th, was up 25%, to 859,998 60-kilogram bags. This was an unexpected boon, as it was thought that weather in the region would hinder a good harvest.

The crop cycle starts October 1st and ends September 30th the next year.

Picking of the harvest was delayed in Honduras the previous two years due to unusual weather. The irregular weather had also resulted in lower output. Coffee production for Honduras during the 2008-09 harvest had ended with total yield down 8.2%.
